Press Conference on Shirley Override
This Tuesday I held a press conference with fellow candidate for the State Legislature, Kurt Hayes who is running for State Representative. We addressed the Property Tax override vote that was held that day in Shirley, a town that we both hope to represent.
We talked about how the override vote was one of the tangible products of our broken state government. Kurt mentioned how the town of Shirley would have received almost $700,000 in lottery aid(almost the exact amount sought in the override) had the House of Representatives voted in favor of an amendment to send $450 million back to our cities and towns. Kurt spoke about how he hopes the ballot question in his district, which calls for the local state representative to vote in favor of sending the lottery revenue back (as it was originally designed for!) to the cities and towns.
What I took the time to talk about is how Beacon Hill lawmakers, like my opponent, claim to be in favor of local aid but they never seem to actually fight for it. The statistic and facts I offered to support my case were this: State revenues have grown $9 Billion (40%) since 2002 while local aid has increased by just $100 Million (2.7%). If Beacon Hill Lawmakers like my opponent claim to be in favor of local aid, then why, when given the chance with record revenue, have they not sent more local aid back to the cities and towns? The answer is that for Beacon Hill our communities are not a priority, and that is what I am running to change.
We were joined at the press conference by Massachusetts Republican Party Chair and former United States Congressman Peter Torkildsen, as well as a strong group of supporters despite its timing in the middle of the week and POURING rain!

Campaign Reception with Governor Paul Cellucci
I was humbled on Thursday night to be joined by Governor Paul Cellucci for a campaign reception we held in his hometown of Hudson. Governor and Ambassador Cellucci use to represent the very seat in the State Senate for which I am running, and I was very happy that he joined us to help us out on our way to victory in November. It was a terrific evening, and we were fortunate to receive the support of many local supporters including more than a few elected officials. I want to thank everyone who came, and especially those that supported us so generously.
Southborough Senior Center Candidates Event
This week I had the opportunity to the town next door, Southborough, to meet many local seniors and some of the other candidates for office. It was a great opportunity to meet some of our neighbors and most of the assembled seniors agreed with our message of keeping taxes low. In particular I drew upon my experience as President of the Friends of the Marlborough Seniors to discuss the issues most important to them.

The Marlborough Labor Day Parade!
Yesterday volunteers for our campaign gathered in Marlborough to march in the annual Labor Day Parade. Marlborough, my hometown, is host to the biggest Labor Day Parade in the state and yesterday I had the amazing opportunity to meet hundreds of our neighbors in the Middlesex and Worcester District throughout the parade route. I want to thank all of the people who made it out to join us, as we had a great showing of support and we got a great reception from the people of Marlborough.
I also want to thank our band which provided us with a beat to our step!

Westborough GOP Cookout!
On Sunday the Westborough Republican Town Committee had a Cookout for the Candidates at the home of Len and Reggie Mead. I was able to join several of our local candidates as we addressed the committee and had some great food. Many thanks to John Rainey and the Westborough RTC for having such a great event and many thanks to the Mead's for opening their beautiful home, the historic Captain John Maynard House, for the event.
Saint Anthony's Bazaar in Shirley
I had the chance to stop by the Saint Anthony's Bazaar a few times last weekend to meet the different voters in the Ayer and Shirley area. It was a great opportunity to meet different voters from across the region and find out what their concerns are. I must thank all the people I had the chance to speak with and the members of Saint Anthony's Parish for allowing me to stop by.
